CLADDAGH DESIGN
The Claddagh design is known worldwide. It appears in many forms of jewelry
as well as on many items. The heart in the design is the symbol for love. The
crown over the heart symbolizes loyality and the hands surrounding the heart
stand for friendship, which is the foundation of love, with loyality holding the two
hands together.

THE LEGEND OF THE SHAMROCK
Long ago, when Ireland was the land of the Druids, there was a great Bishop,
Patrick by name, who came to teach the word of God throughout the country...
This saint, for he was indeed a saint, was well loved everywhere he went. One
day, however, a group of his followers came to him and admitted that it was
difficult for them to believe in the doctrine of the Holy Trinity.
Saint Patrick reflected a moment and then, stooping down, he plucked a leaf
from the shamrock and held it before them, bidding them to behold the living
example of the "Three-in-One." The simple beauty of this explanation convinced
these skeptics, and from that day the shamrock has been revered throughout
Ireland.
THE LEGEND OF THE CELTIC CROSS
The Celtic Cross (Ionic cross) has its roots in a pre-Christian variation of the
Solar Cross. Examples of the Celtic cross date back as far as 5000 years BCE.
Its origins are not known, but it was known to be an early symbol of the sun god
Taranis.
After the conversion of the Celtic people to Christianity, the Celtic Cross became
an emblem of the Celtic Christian Church. Irish legend holds that the cross was
introduced to Ireland by St. Columba, so it is sometimes referred to as
Columba's cross, or the Ionic cross, after his monastery on the isle of Iona.
